First off, introduce yourself and tell us a bit about you and your books!
My name is Brittney Brewer and I live in the mountains of South East, Tennessee. I am a Young Adult author, and my debut novel Legend of the Wildlings recently released November of 2024! It has been described as Harry Potter meets Percy Jackson, and is the perfect read if you grew up escaping to worlds filled with magic and mystery ❤️
Who or what inspired you to start writing?
I used to build worlds when I fell asleep as a child. I created stories in my head of magical places to escape to, and one of those places was a little island with a magic school in a giant tree.
In 2020 I began researching my ancestry, and felt pulled to write a book that mirrored who I was. I am of Irish, Scottish, Norse and Honduran descent, and my series embodies all of that. It’s something that is so close to my heart and who I am, and it was so special to write.
What (or who) inspired you to write your book/series?
Paragraph
What’s your biggest gripe in the fantasy genre these days? What do you wish authors would do more or less of?
I miss more original stories, I think writing to trends and what “sells” at that time makes it hard to find unique books that are enjoyable and not just written for specific tropes. I also don’t love smut 😂 but that’s just a me thing ❤️
Tell us something unique about your book/series that will make the reader immediately want to run and read it.
It is set off the coast or Ireland on a large island, with a community of Norse witches and wizards. I leaned more into my Norse heritage and studied Icelandic magic so it’s a little different than a lot of magic systems ❤️
Who was your favorite character to write about and why?
Fenrir Kitt. He is absolutely hilarious and such a loving brother and friend.
Tell us about your favorite quote or scene in the book and why? (No spoilers!)
When Killian and Ember are walking into the dark forest together towards the end of the book.
“You know,” Killian smirked, “It is a beautiful night for a coup. You could count the stars, it’s so clear.” He lifted his hand to the sky and began tracing patterns in the air.
Ember breathed a small laugh, “It’s quite pointless to count stars.”
“Aye,” He nodded, “It’s also pointless to count freckles, but I know you have twenty-four on your left hand.”
Quick! Dinosaurs have found a portal through time and have come back to destroy humanity. Which of your characters are you picking to help defend you and why?
Killian without a doubt. He might be cocky but he knows what he’s doing.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve had to look up in the name of book research?
What someone’s lips look like after they’ve died 😂
This or that: The stunningly attractive alpha jerk who you love to hate or the somehow sweet but also annoying overprotective “I will burn the world for you” psycho? (and tell us why)
Second option. Definitely. As long as he isn’t a psycho to me we’re good 😂
What’s one book trope you just can’t get enough of, and what’s one that you absolutely despise?
Found Family and Grumpy/Sunshine are my favs.
Can not stand surprise pregnancy tropes or miscommunications 😂
What do you hope readers will take away from your stories?
That family is a lot more than who you were born to, it’s who you would die for ❤️
If you could choose to be one of your characters for a day, who would it be and why?
Ember. She’s a badass 😂
You can turn one object in your household into a magical item. What would it be and what does it do?
The sink so I don’t have to do dishes anymore hahaha
You can have dinner with 3 literary characters of your choosing (your own or others). Who would it be and why?
A young Sirius Black, Draco Malfoy (but like older and not a jerk) and Hermione Granger.
Where can readers find you?
