Looking for a coming of age fantasy that includes a slow burn romance, demons, unique magic, and more? I got you covered.
Let’s welcome author Tori Binns to this week’s Feature Friday! Explore the inspiration behind her work and check out her first in series, The Choice of the Traveler.
Welcome! Introduce yourself and tell us a little about your writing.
Hi – I’m Toni Binns. I write found family fantasy. So, great characters that all bond together and become friends for life. My current series is The Traveler Series. You get portals, found family and some very slow-burn romance.
What’s something unique about your book that will make readers immediately want to check it out?
Betha, the main character of Choice, isn’t a fighter and doesn’t want to become one. She doesn’t learn everything in an instant nor does she know the best answers. Betha does the best she can with the information she has, and that needs to be good enough. But don’t worry, Angie, her best friend, will not let her beat herself up, even when things don’t work out as well as they could.
What inspired you to write The Choice of the Traveler?
This scene of what if, in all of these multiverses we see in media, there’s some thread that ties them all into one thing? What connects all of them together? From there, I kept coming back to two best friends who were almost like sisters. They would do whatever it takes to save each other and things quickly went from there.
Tell us about your favorite character you’ve written about and why?
I loved writing about Betha and Angie’s bond. It is my favorite relationship I have written so far. It’s that relationship you always wanted with your friends. While I love Betha, Angie is a very complex character, and at some point, she will need to step out of the shadows.
Without giving us any spoilers, what’s your favorite quote or scene from your book and tell us a bit about it?
“Betha, I am a literal golden lab. The lowest on the shifter pole. I can basically bark at things, and I play a mean game of catch.”
Where can readers find you?
I hang out in several places but mostly on Instagram, Tiktok and on my website’s blog. You can get a free copy of Traveler Forgotten, which happens the summer before Choice of the Traveler.
