A while ago, I opened up the email lines and asked you to flood me with your burning questions about whatever you wanted to know! Today, I’m compiling the ones specific to the Black Sheep series in this blog post.
Why did you choose to make up a city and not use a real location?
I thought about this. I really wanted to use a real place, but given Adrian’s teasing and mistreatment in the police force, as short lived as it was, I was afraid to mention a specific location. I didn’t want anyone to think that a specific police department acted that way toward their officers.
Your depiction of the military is all wrong! That’s not how it works in real life.
I’ll admit, they kind of act more like the CIA than a military unit. I do not come from a military family, and I understand that those who do are very proud and respectful of their ties. However, this is an urban fantasy series and it was not indented to be a military fantasy. This military exists on a completely different world, and that’s how I chose them to operate. I apologize if this offends anyone.
Do you plan on making audiobooks for the Black Sheep series?
Audiobooks are insanely expensive, averaging about $2,000 a book. At this time, it’s not something I can afford to do.
However, I was just recently accepted into Amazon’s Virtual Voice program. This program, as you can probably guess, uses AI to narrate your book. I know a lot of people are against AI, and believe me if I could hire a professional I would. AI will never replace a real human voice. But this is my only opportunity to give readers who enjoy audiobooks a chance to experience my stories.
A pug with magical farts? Really?
Yes, really. If you don’t have a pug, you wouldn’t understand. If my dog had a magical power, it would be deadly gas. Holy guacamole, people, it’s awful. Also, it’s funny. If you haven’t noticed, there’s a lot of ridiculous humor in my books.
Some of the side characters seem really interesting. Do you plan on writing anything about them?
There’s a lot of mysterious past events that aren’t really explained in either the Black Sheep or NightFly books. Nolan Benson and his crew is one of them. It is on my list of things to do. I’d like to write something about what happened in between his departure from Rezith and reunion of when the Black Sheep series began. When? I can’t say at this point. But it will probably be a free short story.
I really want to read the Black Sheep series. Can I get a free copy?
I actually get this question a lot. To which I would respond, sorry, while I wish I could give everything away for free, I barely make enough money to cover the publishing expenses as it is. If I gave everyone a free book, I’d have to stop writing because I could no longer afford it. If you sign up for Kindle Unlimited (sometimes they offer discounts and free trials) you can read them for “free” or, if you would be willing to leave a thoughtful review of my books on Amazon, Goodreads, Bookbub, etc. you can sign up to become an ARC reader. Not sure what that is? You can learn all about it here. Do note, though, this is a REVIEW copy, not a free copy. Please don’t just sign up for it and run.
What ever happened to Rezith?
The series ends on a bitter sweet note. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I might plan to give Rezith his own series, or at least a stand alone book. He’s a misunderstood character with unique powers. Apparently, also an animal lover (you’ll get it when you finish the series 😉).
