Halloween is upon us, and it’s all about fantasy books with spooky characters. So why not talk about a witchy book for today’s Feature Friday? But there’s aren’t just any witches – they’re witches in FLORIDA!

Please welcome author B.L. Brown and pre-order her upcoming release, Ritual Income.

First off, introduce yourself and tell us a bit about you and your books!

Hello! Though I write as B.L. Brown, my friends call me Britta, and I hope you’ll do the same. I write out of a bonus room in North Carolina while my husband, kids, and dog run rampant throughout the rest of the house. This is probably for the best as at any given moment half my monitor is filled with research that isn’t appropriate for little eyes.

My upcoming release, Ritual Income (Witch of the Demesne), and debut novella, Shady Depths (Witches of C.R.O.W.), are adult urban fantasy/paranormal romance following a group of witches who work for and are hiding from, the regulatory coven which oversees all magick.

When I’m not writing about witches in fantasy Florida, I’m either picking at an alternate-history fantasy, momming my two kiddos, running with the dog, playing pub trivia, or rolling dice for DnD.

What inspired you to write the Ritual Income?

One wack-a-doodle pregnancy dream in October 2017 about a witch named Ludmilla who ran an antique store, and a necromancer gaining immortality by draining MLM Huns.

Ludmilla lived in my head for close to two years before she became Milla on the page. The pandemic was in full swing, shelter-at-home was in place, and I was one month away from giving birth to my second when the words came pouring out.

What’s something unique about your book that’ll make readers want to immediately check it out?

The magic system in the World of C.R.O.W. is heavily inspired by the 1990s X-Men cartoon.

Tell us about your favorite character you’ve written about and why?

Oh, this is such a tricky question! I adore Milla and her gloomy sass, Darkly is a troubled sweetheart, but the honor has to go to former mentor and currently Gone witch, Ezra Lightner. It won’t make sense as you read Ritual Income, but give it a minute. He gets his time to shine.

Without giving us any spoilers, what’s your favorite quote or scene from your book?

Scene-wise, it is absolutely a tie between Milla’s Valentine’s Day encounter with a raw-head, and her attempt to navigate New Orleans’ French Quarter with a very drunk Darkly.

Quote-wise, it’s hands-down the following exchange:

“Triple Goddess’ Tits, Milla!”
“Did you just six-tit curse me?”
